(1925–2005) Joseph Vigilante was a leader of social work education for over four decades who made major contributions to the field of international social work, neighborhood-based social services, and social services to the aged and the disabled. A native of New York City, Vigilante received his MSW and DSW from Columbia University. Upon graduation, he worked as a caseworker and child welfare worker in New York and Wisconsin and joined the faculty of Adelphi University in 1954.
