(1891–1965), Maine poet, descendant of a family long established there, best known for his rather sweet poetry about his region, published in White April (1922), Hurricane (1936), The Compass Eye (1944), and other volumes. He also published a magazine of poetry, Voices (1921ff.). He was the subject of a satirical poem by E.E. Cummings, Poem, or Beauty Hurts Mr. Vinal.
