The origins of this famous Barcelona retailing company can be traced to a retail business founded in 1934. In the following year Jacinto Arnat was employed as a salesman, the first of several generations of the family to become involved with the company. In 1941, under the name Regalos Hugh Vinçon, the business moved to its present location in the Paseo de Grazia, Barcelona. The Arnat family bought the business in 1957 but it was not until after 1967, when the company began marketing contemporary household products to boost profits, that Vinçon began to attract significant attention. The basic concept was to convey the attractive allure of a walk‐in shop window. In 1972 America Sanchez, one of many well‐known graphic designers associated with the company, established the company logo. Designers such as George Hardie and Javier Mariscal have undertaken a range of high‐profile graphic initiatives and the company's carrier bags have subsequently become collectors' items. The company has won many design awards, including the Laus Award for continuous excellence in graphic design (1993), the Premio Nacionale de Diseño (1995), and the Frankfurter Swilling European Prize for the best shop in Barcelona (1999). Vinçon has retail outlets in Barcelona and Madrid and has developed an online facility, VinçoNet.
