1798.
Part of the Wexford rebels in the Irish rising made camp on Vinegar Hill, just outside Enniscorthy, where they terrorized the protestants of the neighbourhood. On 21 June 1798, government forces under General Lake stormed the hill. Pikes and numbers were no match for artillery.
