(1797–1847),
Swiss Reformed theologian. He was professor of pastoral theology at Lausanne from 1837 to 1847, when he attached himself to the newly constituted Free Church in Canton Vaud. He defended liberty of worship and the separation of Church and State. His conception of Christianity was individualistic, the seat of religion being the conscience, and dogma important only in so far as it issued in moral action.
