1. Any depiction of things in a visual medium.
2.(retinal images) In perception, the constantly fluctuating pattern of light projected onto the retina by the lens of the eye corresponding point-by-point (though inverted and reversed) to an external stimulus to which we have no direct access.
3. (psychology) An analogical mental representation of a sensory stimulus (which is not currently physically present and which is constructed from memory and imagination. Mental imagery is not limited to visual stimuli.
