Quick Reference

Riboflavin (vitamin B2) is an essential coenzyme for carbohydrate metabolism. Deficiency, commonly due to insufficient dietary intake of animal protein such as milk and milk products, presents clinically with fissures at the corners of the mouth and lips, which become deeply pigmented. More serious deficiency causes vascular changes in the cornea, leading to visual impairment and ultimately blindness.
