The profile of a strong absorption line in a stellar atmosphere which combines the broadening effects of thermal (Doppler) motions of the atoms in the atmosphere with those of atomic collisions (pressure broadening) which dominate the line wings. It is named after the German physicist Woldemar Voigt (1850–1919).
