Quick Reference

A tank filled with water and used to measure the volume of a body. When any body (including that of a human) is completely submerged in the water, the volume of the water displaced equals the volume of the body. The volumeter is usually combined with scales so that the weight of the body in and out of the water can be measured. The measurements are used to determine density and specific gravity.
