(Jo Luo/Sudan)

Wac, Spider, is the divine trickster.

Wac is often outrageous in his actions. But sometimes he is positive: he saves the people, for example, by advising Juok not to create a second sun that would have burned mankind.

Wac is the savior who releases the people and animals from the stomach of a water spirit, and he tries to climb into the sky. The spider says that he wants to find Juok, wherever he is. He fastens a small drum under his armpit and asks the people to pull him up by a rope into the sky. The spider also has a small stick with him, and he tells the people to cut the rope if they hear him beating his drum. But before he reaches the sky he knocks the drum accidentally with his elbow. So the people think that he has already arrived in the sky, and they cut the rope. The spider falls down and breaks into small pieces. Since then, there have been a lot of spiders. See also: Juok.
