‘The power above’, the great mystery of the Sioux, the supreme hunters and warriors of the Great Plains of North America. Related to the Iroquois word orenda, ‘magic power’, and the Algonquin manitu, ‘spirit’, Wakonda is the source of all wisdom and power, the everlasting fount that sustains the world and enlightens the medicine-man.
