Male legal guardian, usually the father. Responsible for overseeing minors' and unmarried females' marriage contracts and property interests, and for the maintenance and welfare of wards. In cases where the father is not present, male guardianship passes first to the paternal uncle or paternal grandfather. In some cases, the court may be petitioned to assume guardianship.
