British designer. He studied at the Central School of Arts and Crafts and began his career with Joan Littlewood at Theatre Workshop. A designer capable of great romantic charm and delicacy he created costumes for many ballet and opera companies, including Royal Ballet, English National Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet, Berlin Opera Ballet, and Houston Ballet. His set and costume designs include Ashton's The Dream (1964) and Cinderella (1965 revival), both for the Royal Ballet, The Nutcracker (Boston Ballet, 1979, 1995, and 2003) and Corder's Cinderella (1996, English National Ballet and also Boston Ballet).
