Anglican priest and spiritual director. He worked mainly in London parishes until 1915; he then devoted himself to spiritual direction, supported financially by an anonymous group of friends. He exerted considerable influence in the C of E, especially on the clergy, among whom the use of a spiritual director and the sacrament of Penance became widespread.
