The process of developing a series of Web pages which satisfy a number of different criteria. The first is that the pages should look good, they should be uncluttered, they declare their intent, and the material on the pages can be read easily. The second criterion is that the user of the pages is able to navigate effortlessly between pages and knows where they are in the Web site which contains the pages at all times. The third criterion is that the pages should download quickly. Reconciling these three criteria requires design skills of the highest order.
