(b Niederdorla, Thuringia, c.1619; d Hamburg, 24 Feb. 1674). German composer. He was a choirboy at the Dresden chapel under Schütz, then a pupil of Praetorius and Scheidemann at Hamburg. About 1642 he went to Denmark to join Schütz, remaining as organist until 1647. Eight years later he became organist at St Jacobi in Hamburg, where he founded a collegium musicum.
