Jews and Christians reckoned time in periods of weeks each lasting seven days, but whereas Jews observed Saturday, the Sabbath, as a day of rest (cf. Gen. 2: 2–3), Christians began to keep the first day special as being that of the Lord's Resurrection (Acts 20: 7).
