US dancer and choreographer. He studied at the School of American Ballet, joining New York City Ballet in 1967 and becoming soloist in 1970. In 1975 he became resident choreographer at Connecticut Ballet where his ballets included Coppélia (1977) and Beauty and the Beast (mus. Debussy, 1979). In 1979 he moved to Boston Ballet as resident choreographer, principal dancer, and teacher. He choreographed many ballets, such as La Fille mal gardée (1990), and became associate artistic director. During the mid-1990s he was resident choreographer for Pittsburgh Ballet Theater. He has also choreographed for other companies, including Hunchback of Notre Dame (mus. Bartók, 1981) for Australian Ballet.
