Quick Reference

The NT first appeared in Welsh in 1567; this served as the basis for the complete Bible published by W. Morgan (q.v.) in 1588. A revision was issued in 1620. It remained in general use until a fresh translation was published in 1988.

A Welsh translation of the English BCP of 1559 was issued in 1567; one lesson was still read in English. A full translation of the 1662 BCP appeared in 1664. A new ‘Book of Common Prayer for use in the Church of Wales’, issued in 1984, provides for services in Welsh and English.
