We (Wea) is the supreme god. He is powerful, a power without limit. God is invisible here below. Ancestral spirits are intermediaries between God and man. Tega, the earth goddess, is the wife of We. She receives her fertility through his superior power. The groves are points of contact of the earth with God. If from time to time God makes it rain, it is because his companion the earth has need of it. He watches over her because she has all that we need. He gives her night that she may have rest, and he gives her day that she may develop her various products.
We (Wea), the supreme god, used to live on earth, but an old woman kept slicing bits off him to add to her soup. As a result, We, pained by this, decided to move higher, into heaven.
