NASA's original plan to transform a rocket fuel-tank in orbit into its Skylab space station. To reduce financial costs, it was envisaged that astronauts would be launched into space by the hydrogen tank. They would then empty the tank of remaining fuel, pump in oxygen, and equip the station. After several Moon missions were cancelled, however, a powerful Saturn V rocket became available to launch an already fitted-out Skylab into orbit.
