A derogatory term used by hard-core hackers to describe WYSIWYG software which they are unable to modify for specific purposes not catered for in the original software. The term was originally coined by Brian Kernighan of Bell Labs to indicate that WYSIWYG systems might throw away information in a document that could be useful in other contexts.
