US dancer. She studied ballet locally, at Louisville Ballet Academy, and the School of American Ballet before becoming an apprentice with New York City Ballet in 1984 and a full member in 1986. She was promoted to principal in 1991. An exceptionally lean and supple dancer with a fearless athleticism and musicality she performed leading roles in most of the Balanchine and Robbins repertories and created roles in many works, including Martins's Adams Violin Concerto, Ash, Concerti Armonici, Jazz, Les Petits Riens, and Reliquary; Robbins's Brandenburg; and Ratmansky's Russian Seasons; also in works by Dove, O'Day, C. d'Amboise, and La Fosse. She formed a celebrated partnership with Jock Soto, and with him was particularly associated with the ballets of Wheeldon, creating roles in Polyphonia, Morphoses, Liturgy, After the Rain, and Klavier, among others. She also made many guest appearances with Wheeldon's company Morphoses.
