An eye colour gene of Drosophila that encodes an ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter involved in the distribution of pigments found in the eyes. The human homologue (ABCG1, 638 aa) is expressed in brain, spleen, and lung and is thought to have a role in regulating cholesterol and phospholipid transport, especially in macrophages.
