The ensign flown by all ships of the British Navy, and by yachts over a certain tonnage which belong to The Royal Yacht Squadron, Britain's senior yacht club. When the division of the British fleet into squadronal colours was abolished in 1864, only the white ensign was retained for all naval ships.
