Eng. tenor. Opera début BNOC (Leeds) 1923 (Radames in Aida). CG 1924, 1928–33, 1935, 1937–8. Fine oratorio singer, but better known for Wagner roles such as Siegmund and Lohengrin. Sang Tristan to Leider's and Flagstad's Isolde. Sang in Barcelona (1927), Amsterdam, and Ger. Sang title‐role in f. Eng. p. of Oedipus Rex (1936, cond. Ansermet).
