James John Garth Wilkinson was born in London on 3 June 1812 and died there on 18 October 1899. He qualified as MRCS in 1834 and also became a Licentiate of the London Apothecaries Society. He later received the honorary degree of MD from the University of Pennsylvania. Wilkinson practised medicine in London for many years and he had a strong interest in homoeopathy.
