US dancer. He studied tap and ballet locally, after which he attended the High School of Performing Arts, and studied ballet with Tudor and others and modern dance with May O'Donnell. He joined her company in 1958 then danced with McKayle (1960), Graham (1962–6), and Ailey from 1964. A dancer who combined exceptional dramatic fervour with technical control, he created roles in many of Ailey's works including the solo Love Songs (1972), and continued to perform with the company until 2005. He then joined Paradigm, Gus Solomons jun.'s company for senior dancers.
