US astronaut. He flew with the May 2000 mission of the Atlantis space shuttle that delivered equipment and supplies to the International Space Station (ISS). During the mission he undertook a space walk of more than six hours. He logged over 236 hours in space and over six hours on space walks. Williams was a US Army pilot assigned to NASA's Johnson Space Center from 1987 to 1992 and a test pilot from 1993. He was selected as an astronaut in 1996. He went on to train for a future flight to the ISS.
