British-Danish dancer and teacher. He grew up in Copenhagen where he studied at the Royal Danish Ballet School and graduated into the company. A gifted mime and exponent of the Bournonville style he was promoted soloist (principal) in 1949 and became a teacher at the school in 1950. After leaving in 1963 he joined the School of American Ballet (1964) where he was one of its most respected teachers.
