One of the earliest of the 14th‐cent. English romances of the Alliterative Revival, of 5,540 lines in a West Midland dialect. It was based on the late 12th‐cent. French Roman de Guillaume de Palerne, and tells the story of a prince saved by a werewolf, who turns out to be another prince, under the spell of a wicked stepmother.
