Bp. of Ratisbon. Of Swabian descent, he was educated at the monastery of Reichenau, taught in the cathedral school of Trier, and c.965 became a monk at Einsiedeln. In 971 he set out to evangelize the Magyars. The next year he was elected Bp. of Ratisbon; he soon became an ardent reformer. His feast (31 Oct.) is widely observed in Central Europe.
