A type of quartz prism for producing plane-polarized light. It deviates the ordinary and extraordinary rays in opposite directions by approximately the same amount. Like the Rochon prism, it can be used with ultraviolet radiation. It is named after the British inventor and chemist William Hyde Wollaston (1766–1828).
