An oral hygiene aid made from wood such as birch, bass, or linden wood shaped with a flat surface tapering to a point. It is used to remove plaque and food debris from proximal tooth surfaces, wide interdental spaces, exposed root surfaces, and furcation areas in periodontally involved teeth. Wood points may be impregnated with chemotherapeutic agents.
