Quick Reference

The ways in which the members of the labour force in an enterprise carry out their tasks. Working practices may be set by formal agreement between employers and workers' representatives, or by customs which have emerged and are followed without any formal agreement. They are concerned with who undertakes what functions, and how many people a given task is expected to occupy. Unnecessarily restrictive working practices, however, can seriously impair efficiency.
