Quick Reference

A series of large-scale surveys of UK establishments have been undertaken in the last twenty-five years, of which WERS04 is the fifth, and most recent. The other surveys were undertaken in 1980, 1984, 1990, and 1998. WERS04 covers 2,295 establishments (with 5 or more employees) in Britain. The database is composed of responses from face-to-face structured interviews with 3,200 managers and 991 worker representatives, and over 20,000 questionnaire responses from a representative sample of employees from selected establishments. The WERS04 survey and its predecessors are a source of important information about changing patterns and current practices in employment relations in Britain.
