A programme carried out under the auspices of the United Nations and coordinated by the World Meteorological Organization. There are four basic aims: obtaining data and monitoring climate; improving the use of climatic data for the management of resources, agriculture, urban planning, etc.; research into climatic processes (the World Climate Research Programme); assessment of the impact of climatic change and the development of response strategies.
