A plan of action that was developed at the 1974World Population Conference, which recognized that population growth and economic development are mutually related. Amongst other things, the plan was designed to encourage countries to develop their own population policies, reduce mortality and infant mortality, make family planning education and services available for all individuals, promote regional and rural development policies in order to reduce urban pressure, improve national population and development planning, and promote legal, educational, and employment equality for women.
