Who wrote more than 60 books and articles on illuminated MSS, iconography, liturgy, and calendars, including English Benedictine Kalendars Before/After ad 1100 (3 vols, 1934–46). After working in the British Museum (1927–50), Wormald became professor of palaeography at King's College London (1950–60), then director of the Institute of Historical Research (1960–68). He did much to establish the Warburg Institute's position in the London academic scene.
