anchorite. After a conversion attributed to an interview with a beggar, who told him the contents of his purse and prophesied a life of sanctity for him, c.1125 he was enclosed in a cell at Haselbury Plucknett in Somerset. He became famous for his prophecies and miracles. Feast day, 20 Feb.
