A double-stranded DNA virus (yaba monkey tumour virus) that induces the formation of focal (benign) histiocytomas. It was isolated from African monkeys but can infect all primates. The genome encodes a TNFα binding protein (YMTV-2L, 341 aa) and inhibits TNF signalling. The yatapoxvirus genus has three members: tanapox virus (TPV), yaba-like disease virus (YLDV), and yaba monkey tumour virus.
