(Skt.). A way or a vehicle. The term came into use with the advent of the Mahāyāna.and denotes the various paths taught by the Buddha according to the spiritual acumen of the audience. Typically, Mahāyāna posits the existence of three ways: Śrāvakayāna.or the Vehicle of the Hearers; Pratyekabuddhayāna.or the Vehicle of the Solitary Buddhas; and Bodhisattvayāna.or the Vehicle of the Bodhisattvas.
