Battle in 637 between Muslim forces led by Khalid ibn al-Walid and the Byzantine emperor Heraclius. The decisive Muslim victory led to the Byzantine withdrawal from Syria and Palestine, which surrendered to the Muslims between 637 and 647. Jerusalem also surrendered to the Muslims in 638, one of the most peaceful conquests in Jerusalem's history.
