This system provides tests which are used nationally by secondary schools to gauge the potential of their Key Stage 4 pupils. Schools choose whether or not to participate in this type of standardized assessment. Test results can be used by secondary schools as a baseline for value added measures. They are also used to predict General Certificate of Secondary Education grades for core GCSE subjects. Yellis tests provide an alternative baseline to Key Stage 3 Standard Task results, which are the outcome of specific learning and instruction, rather than innate potential. Yellis produces baseline tests for Years 10 and 11. These tests are assessed externally by Yellis and results are returned to the school shortly afterwards.
