Russian dancer. He studied at the Leningrad Ballet School (Vaganova) with Abdurakhman Kumysnikov, and graduated into the Kirov Ballet, in 1974. In 1980 he was promoted to principal, an outstanding danseur noble who excelled in the 19th-century classics although he also displayed a flair for comedy. When Natalia Makarova danced her televised reunion with the Kirov Ballet in London in 1988, she chose Zaklinsky as her partner. He created roles in Vinogradov's The Fairy of the Rond Mountains (1980) and The Knight in Tigerskin (1985). He frequently appeared as an international guest artist, including with the Royal Ballet in London (1989–90). He retired from dancing in the late 1990s and now teaches. He appeared in a number of films, including Tristan and Isolde (1976), Fouetté (1986), and Chapliniana (1988). Gold medal Tokyo, 1984. He married the Kirov ballerina Altynai Asylmuratova.
