Married the Prophet Muhammad after the death of her husband at the Battle of Uhud in 625. She died after only eight (according to some versions, three) months of marriage to the Prophet. She is described as extremely charitable, on account of which she earned the sobriquet “Mother of the Poor” (Umm al-Masakin).
