Minor Prophet. The Book announces the approaching judgement of all peoples in the Day of the Lord, but holds out the hope of future conversion among foreign nations and of a faithful remnant among the Jews. The prophecy claims to have been delivered in the reign of Josiah (d. c.608 bc); it probably belongs before 621 bc. The opening words of the ‘Dies irae’ are taken from the Vulgate version of 1: 15 f.
