Visitation. Refers to visiting gravesites for the purpose of praying for the dead or visiting the tombs of holy people (saints), seeking blessings. Rituals require that one should turn toward the dead when approaching the grave, offer a greeting, and pray for that person. The Wahhabis of Saudi Arabia (Hanbali school of law) forbid women from entering the historic Baqi cemetery, where the Prophet's Muhammad family, wives, and prominent Companions are buried. Shafii and Shii jurists allow women to visit all gravesites.
