Quick Reference

The order in which layers are placed in a graphic or a Web page. For example, the cascading style sheets facility allows blocks of text to be placed one on top of another. The order in which they are placed is known as the Z order. The term comes from the fact that the x and y coordinate systems describe horizontal and vertical ordering in a graphic, while the z coordinate system defines ordering in a direction ninety degrees to both these.
