The name of the serpent upon which Viṣṇu reclines in his Vaikuṇṭha heaven. There is a well-known image depicting this in the inner sanctum of the Śrīraṅgam temple. Śrīvaiṣṇavas regard Ādiśeṣa as a personification of eternal servitude to Viṣṇu. See also Ananta, Śeṣa.
